What is medical oxygen?
Pure (82%) medical oxygen is produced by compressing the oxygen collected from the natural air in a special way (pressure swing absorption) in a few steps.
After production, oxygen can usually be transported and stored in a liquid (large tank) or gaseous
(high pressure gas cylinder), which we use to control the level of oxygen in the patient’s body at a later time in the hospital.
Most hospitals in our country supply gaseous or gaseous oxygen because it is profitable and easily stored.
On the other hand, the processing of liquid oxygen is some what expensive, but the advantage is that it can store more oxygen than gaseous oxygen in a certain capacity tank.
Why the lack of oxygen despite the abundance of natural air?
Although there is plenty of air in nature (about 21 percent of our natural air is oxygen),
special technology is needed to create usable pure medical oxygen. Technical inadequacies are therefore a major barrier to the availability and supply of medical oxygen.
The second obstacle is the lack of proper distribution and distribution of prepared oxygen,
which hinders the availability of oxygen required by the patient in spite of proper production and distribution of oxygen.
The third problem is the lack of proper concept of quality control as well as rules of medical oxygen use at different stages of production process, equipment maintenance.
Linda Bangladesh Limited, the largest oxygen producer in Bangladesh,
produces about 95 tons of liquid and gaseous oxygen per day and supplies about 90 percent
of the total daily supply. On the other hand, Islam Oxygen Limited’s own plant can produce
only 33 tons of oxygen per day due to lack of uninterrupted power supply and mechanical faults
despite having a production capacity of about 54 tons.
